Hi, I’m Erina MacSweeney and welcome to my site, I’m a registered nutritional therapist, based in Milltown, Killarney Co Kerry Ireland.I’m particularly interested in disease prevention and how correct nutrition can lead to optimum health and better health. I’ve got a BSc in Food Science from University College Cork and a diploma in Naturopathic Nutrition from the College of Naturopathic Medicine. I am registered with NTOI this is the official body for nutritional therapists in Ireland.
I practice as a Nutritional Therapist, and am available to give talks on any aspect of health to community groups, schools, and parent associations etc.
What is Nutritional Therapy?
Nutritional therapy is the application of nutritional science in the promotion of optimum health, peak performance and disease prevention. Nutritional therapy encompasses the use of carefully compiled recommendations for diet and lifestyle in order to alleviate or prevent ailments and promote optimal health. Nutritional therapy believes that a stressful lifestyle, deficient diet, and too much of the wrong sort of foods and other toxic substances, are the cause of most chronic conditions found today. Based on solid scientific principles and the latest research, nutritional therapy uses foods and nutrients to alleviate disease and strengthen vitality.
Nutritional Therapy can be effective with or without conventional medicine depending on the client and the condition.
Over the last 9 years I have specialised in the area of cardiovascular disease detection and prevention, which has led me to the very closely related area of blood sugar problems including diabetes (T2), pre-diabetes, abdominal obesity and chronic inflammatory conditions. I now offer a unique service that focuses on the early detection and prevention of the underlying cause of diabetes. More information can be found at here. ??????
It is my goal to provide effective, reasonably priced nutritional advice to a wide variety of clients. Nutritional therapists often work with clients who have chronic health problems. These include allergies, digestive and bowel disorders, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, depression, stress-related disorders, auto-immune conditions, joint problems, skin disorders, fertility problems, learning and behavior difficulties in children, among many others.
I also run regular Workshops on:
Diabetes prevention – Say No Diabetes…Healthy Hearts…Preparing for Pregnancy…Mens Health…Womens Health…Weight Loss…and more.
These days are centered around Eating and Learning! So come hungry for yummy, nourishing food, and hungry for knowledge. Price includes all meals, and workbook.
Special area of Interest:
Heart Health, Diabetes and Alzheimer’s
All aspects of cardiovascular disease is an area that I have a special interest in, and I run Healthy Heart Programs, focusing on dietary and lifestyle changes that can be made to bring down cholesterol, blood pressure, improve circulation and reduce fatigue etc. Good food, weight loss, exercise and targeted nutritional protocols may be part of the program. The early detection and prevention of diabetes is an area that is showing huge scope across all age groups, and with the rising levels of obesity and diabetes a straight forward, successful, science based approach is required. Alzheimer’s, a condition linked to and associated with the above conditions. Functional medicine is showing excellent results in both the prevention and reversal of this condition.
Do you have an issue with cholesterol, blood pressure, angina, fatigue, chest pain, poor circulation or diabetes? Is there a family history of heart disease? Would you like to know how healthy your arteries are, for your age?
Irish Heart Health based in Miltown Co Kerry is a specialist service providing clients with a concise picture of their cardiovascular health with a view to preventing a heart attack and stroke through stroke through the analysis of risk factors and raising awareness.
We provide you with a detailed nutritional, dietary and lifestyle assessment .We then design a specific program to enhance your cardiovascular health with particular emphasis on the normalization of blood pressure, reductions in cholesterol levels and other criteria including weight loss, fat distribution, and fitness levels, if required. The results for those who comply with the program are over all, excellent.
An Irish Heart Health consultation is suitable for people of all ages, it is a personalized consultation which aims to focus a person on the prevention of heart disease. As in all areas of nutritional therapy all “red flags” are addressed, and we can work alongside your GP program.

NOTE: “We offer appropriate guidance to improve overall health and well-being. We do not offer diagnosis or medical intervention and suggest clients refer to their physician where assessments indicate abnormalities such as higher than average blood pressure or higher than average central aortic blood pressure readings, a high pulse rate or an irregular heartbeat.”
Say NO to Diabetes
This program is a holistic approach to the early detections of insulin resistance, the root cause of diabetes, and to addressing diabetes, pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome, abdominal obesity, uncontrolled weight, and related cardiovascular and other conditions, in particular inflammation. It includes a nutritional consultation, Pulsewave cardiovascular screening, and a review of current blood test results.
A personalized diet and lifestyle program is prepared for each person, to include healthy, satisfying, low carb/healthy fat choices for meals. I encourage my clients to learn, and understand the value of the dietary changes, to liaise with their GP and to monitor their blood sugars closely (if relevant) especially if they are on medications.
